Nursing is one of the fastest-moving overseas placement pathways — but it runs on its own licensing track, separate from most other trades. Getting the sequence right from day one can be the difference between a three-month process and a seven-month one. Here’s what that pathway actually looks like.
Start with your PNMC Good Standing Certificate
The Pakistan Nursing & Midwifery Council (PNMC) Good Standing Certificate is typically the first document to request, and it’s worth starting on day one of the process rather than waiting until you have an offer — it can take time to come through, and nothing downstream can move without it.
DataFlow primary source verification
DataFlow is a third-party verification service that every Gulf licensing authority now requires without exception. It contacts your nursing school and previous employers directly to confirm your degree, licence and work history — and this is where most delays happen, since response times from institutions can run several weeks. Starting DataFlow early, even before you have a confirmed offer, is one of the most effective ways to shorten your overall timeline.
The country licensing exam
Each Gulf country runs its own health regulator and its own Prometric-based computer exam:
- Saudi Arabia — Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS)
- UAE — DHA (Dubai), DOH (Abu Dhabi) or MOHAP (other emirates), depending on where you’ll work
- Qatar — Department of Healthcare Professions (DHP, formerly QCHP)
These exams are multiple-choice, computer-based, and cover core clinical nursing knowledge. Passing scores and formats vary slightly by country, but the underlying preparation — solid clinical fundamentals — carries across all of them.
How the whole pathway fits together
In order, the typical sequence runs: confirm eligibility → secure an employer offer → gather documents → DataFlow verification → apply to the licensing authority → sit the Prometric exam → receive your licence → complete your medical → process your visa → travel. End to end, this usually takes three to six months.
